Box Score GRAMBLING, La. – The Grambling State University women's basketball team (10-18, 7-10Top of Form) secured a 65-64 win over the Lady Bulldogs to close out conference play of the season on a high note on Saturday at the Fredick C. Hobdy Asembly Center.
In the beginning of the first half, both teams suffered from carless turnovers, but Grambling capitalized and pulled ahead from a 10-10 tie at the 16:02 mark in the first half. The Lady Tigers were up 25-15 at the 7:18 mark with a jumper credited to
Chelsey Johnson who gave Grambling their largest lead of the half. With 1:24 left to play before halftime,
Shakierya McClendon puts together a couple of big shots to keep the Lady Bulldogs from within a one point lead to close the half.
Coming in to the second half of the game, the Lady Tigers find themselves in a seven point deficit at the 13:15 mark from a basket by A&M's Taylor Sippial. The Lady Tigers then rally, and take back the lead from the Lady Bulldogs by seven off of a drive to the basket by
Shakierya McClendon. The Lady Tigers with 20 seconds left to play are up by one due to a basket by A&M's Deborah Martin, but Moiesha Neal of the Lady Tigers answers right back with 14 seconds left. Grambling holds A&M scoreless within the final seconds to finish out the last home game of the regular season.
Grambling's McClendon had 18 points and two steals followed by
Yosha Watson who earned 13 points and two blocks for Grambling. BreNae Andrews also chipped in 10 points for the Lady Tigers. The Team shot 73.3 percent from the field Saturday.
Brittney Strickland had a huge night for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 22 points and dishing out three assists. Sippal also landed in double figures with 17 points.
