KENNESAW, Ga.  – A frantic comeback fell just short for Alabama A&M in an 8-7 loss to Kennesaw State during KSU's Dr. Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs had fallen behind 8-2 entering the final inning but were able to take advantage of gaffes by the Owls. Tiana Sanders drew a bases-loaded walk to start the comeback attempt.  Virdiana Ramos reached on a fielder's choice but an errant throw allowed two more runs to touch home for AAMU.

Caitlyn Hayden's two-run double to left field brought the game to within one, but Logan Viers  -- who started for KSU but was pulled in the fifth when the Owls led 7-2 – reentered the game and got the final two outs.

Ramos was 2-for-4 with two runs. Missy Perkowski was 3-for-4 with four runs scored for the Owls. Jordan Bradley received the loss for AAMU, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. Hayden pitched well in relief, allowing two hits and fanning two in 2.2 innings.
Baylor 11, Mississippi Valley State 1 (F/5)

GULFPORT, Miss.  – Mississippi Valley State was downed 11-1 by Baylor during the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic during Saturday night action.

MVSU fell behind early 3-0 to the Lady Bears, and were unable to curtail the Baylor offense, as the Devilettes ultimately allowed 16 hits during the contest.

Shelby Friudenberg added a two-run home run in the second inning, and the Bears got a three-run triple from Sarah Smith en route to the win.

Shyanne Downing was credited with the loss, as  every hit and run came at her expense. MVSU's lone run came in the top of the fifth thanks to an Alexandra Dobbins home run.
McNeese State 8, Jackson State 0

GULFPORT, Miss.  – Merina Young and the Jackson State Lady Tigers surrendered 14 hits in a 8-0 loss to McNeese State during the Gulf Coast Classic on Saturday.

The Cowgirls scored in every inning, as RBI's by Emily Vincent, Aubrey Tuberville, Erika Piancastelli (who homered) and Justyce McClain put Jackson State in a 4-0 hole that Jackson State was never able to climb out of, as the Lady Tigers only mustered two hits in the game.

Young was tagged with the loss on her slate. Canessa Swanson had a hit and a stolen base, and Denisha Knight added the other hit.
Omaha 7, Alabama State 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Alabama State's offense was contained to the tune of two hits in a 7-0 loss to Nebraska-Omaha in the ASU Hornet Tournament Saturday.

Omaha did most of its work in the second inning, scoring four runs in the frame thanks to a Nicole Warren grand slam. Campbell Ditto delivered a solo shot in the sixth, and Megan May added a two-run double in the seventh to aide the Mavericks' cause.

Alabama State had chances but were unable to take advantage of them, stranding seven runners. Charlene Castro got the loss, as she allowed the four-run inning. Melissa Christmann, who started the game, ultimately pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and one run. Kendall Core and Laura Aguilar had one hit each for the Hornets.
Loyola 10, Southern 1 (F/5)

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – An unraveling in the fourth inning led to a 10-1 loss for Southern to Loyola during the Tennessee State Invitational Saturday.

With the game knotted 1-1, Southern surrendered nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Loyola's entire lineup got a chance in the batter's box, and six different players collected a RBI at the expense of Jaguars pitchers Tiara Scott and Delphia Holmes, the latter of whom was assessed the loss on her ledger. Holmes allowed eight hits and six earned runs (seven in all) in 3.0 innings.

Bailey Rankin was responsible for Southern's lone RBI, and Jamani Greer was 2-for-2 for the Lady Jaguars. Brooke Wyderski and Katie Kasubke had two hits each for Loyola.
#6 Louisiana 12, Alcorn State 0 (F/5)

LAFAYETTE, La.  – Alcorn State was held hitless in a 12-0 loss to No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette during the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.

UL scored in every inning, while putting together four three-run frames. Alcorn State starter Ashley Breal surrendered a home run to Ragin' Cajun hitters Lexie Elkins, DJ Sanders and Kara Gremillion over the game. Breal was tagged for 12 hits and issued four walks in the loss. The Braves struck out nine times as a team in the five-inning affair.

Elkins, Sanders and Shellie Landry each had three hits for UL.
Western Michigan 8, Alabama A&M 0 (F/6)

KENNESAW, Ga.  – Alabama A&M only mustered three hits in a 8-0 loss to Western Michigan during the Kennesaw State Invitational.

Western Michigan jumped out to a lead in the second inning after producing four runs on five hits. Ivy Schaaf had a two-run double during the frame.

After the Broncos added another run in the fourth, Abby Stoner hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth. Alabama A&M was unable to produce in the bottom of the inning, thus instituting the run-rule win.

Imani Largin took the loss for AAMU, allowing 13 hits in 6.0 innings. Largin, Virdiana Ramos and Jordan Bradley had one hit each for the Bulldogs. Kelsea Cichocki was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Tennessee State 11, Southern 2 (F/6)

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Southern fell 11-2 to Tennessee State during Saturday action at the Tennessee State Invitational.

After failing to cash in with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning, Southern claimed a 2-0 lead when Alicia Barajas delivered a RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. From there, the Jaguars couldn't curtail the bats of Lauren Dreitlein and Abi Stephens combined for eight RBI, with both players leaving the yard over the course of the game. Dreitlein's fence-clearing hit was a three-run shot in the sixth that neccessitated the run-rule win.

Kayleigh Thomas took the loss for SUBR, allowing 16 hits and 10 earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. Barajas was 3-for-4, and Bailey Rankin had two hits.
Mississippi Valley State 2, Incarnate Word 0

GULFPORT, Miss.  – Rebekah Clinton tossed a five-hit shutout as Mississippi Valley State grinded out a 2-0 win over Incarnate Word during the Gulf Coast Classic on Saturday.

The contest was a pitcher's duel until the sixth inning. There, the Devilettes broke through as Ikeiya Alexander hit a RBI double to plate Kaylin Dunn – who reached on a fielder's choice – and Jordan Brown soon followed with a RBI single.

Clinton allowed a runner to reach second in the top of the seventh but forced a groundout and a pop-out to preserve the win. She struck out two in the winning effort. Alexander was 2-for-3.
Akron 6, Alabama State 5 (F/8)

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Alabama State was unable to protect a two-run lead, falling 6-5 to Akron in extra innings during the ASU Hornet Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Hornets fell behind 3-0 after the third inning, when Akron benefitted from a two-run double by Cassie Gillespie and a solo homer from Savannah Fruin. Alabama State opened up for five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple from Aleesa Yanez. Charlene Castro, Carly Evans and Alexia Boggess also had RBIs in the frame.

Alyssa Nicholas delivered a two-run double in the top of the seventh to tie it for Akron, and the Zips later won it via a Gabrielle Fredericks RBI single in the eighth, as Alabama State couldn't produce despite getting a runner on third.

Laura Aguilar had two hits for the Hornets. Castro (4 H, 3 R, 2 ER allowed in 2.1 IP) was assessed the loss for Alabama State.
Houston Baptist 5, Texas Southern 1

HOUSTON – Texas Southern mustered only three hits in a 5-1 loss at Houston Baptist on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers drew first blood when Haley Smith delivered a RBI single to centerfield to score Domonique Tello and give TSU a 1-0 lead. However, that was mostly all that Texas Southern would muster in the contest. 

Houston Baptist chased TSU starter Jasmine Fulmore after 0.1 innings pitched when the Huskies scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the advantage. Texas Southern's best chance to make up ground came in the top of the sixth, where the Lady Tigers had the bases loaded with one out, but came away empty handed. HBU would put it out of reach in the bottom half of the inning, when the Lady Huskies added to the lead with a two-run double by Brooke Bushman.

Krystalani Yockman also had a hit for TSU. Fulmore took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits. Lauren Rodriguez pitched 5.1 innings of relief, striking out six and allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Jackson State 11, IPFW 9

GULFPORT, Miss. – After losing an early lead, Jackson State overcame a 8-5 deficit to prevail in an 11-9 slugfest over IPFW during the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic.

After a two-run double by Ashley Neal put the Lady Tigers ahead 5-0, The Mastodons got to Jackson State starter Sybil Lozano, scoring eight unanswered runs. During the run, Caitlyn DeLong hit a two run homer and a RBI single, and Kristen Zarate and Emily Olszewski each delived two-run hits.

JSU took advantage of IPFW gaffes over the course of the fifth and sixth innings, as Tatyana Gives picked up three RBI in what culminated as a five-run (four unearned) burst for the Lady Tigers over the frames.
 
After the Mastodons got to within one,  Lyndsey Colvin hit a RBI single in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Lozano picked up the win, allowing 14 hits and nine runs while pitching the whole game.  Colvin was 3-for-5 with two runs, and Canessa Swanson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Six IPFW players had at least two hits in the game.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff 9, South Dakota State 6

CONWAY, Ark. – A six-run outburst in the third inning was the deciding factor for Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its 9-6 triumph over South Dakota State during the Central Arkansas Invitational on Saturday.

UAPB came into said inning trailing 3-1 before taking advantage of a loss of strike zone command by SDSU's pitching staff. The Golden Lions drew four walks in the inning, manufacturing runs throughout the frame.

South Dakota State scored thrice afterward to make the game 7-5, but Arkansas-Pine Bluff added two runs in the sixth to put it away, thanks to RBIs from Paige Garcia and Monique Nikolao, each of whom accounted for two hits and two RBI apiece in the game.

Maria Aguilar was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Alexandra Taylor scored two runs for UAPB. Hailey Forbes picked up her first win of the year in a complete game effort, allowing nine hits and six runs (three earned) while striking out three.
Rutgers 10, Alcorn State 0 (F/5)

LAFAYETTE, La. – Alcorn State's bats were held in check during a 10-0 loss to Rutgers at the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Braves were held to three hits in the contest. Meanwhile, Rutgers put up a five-spot in each of the third and fourth innings to put the game away. 

Vanessa Sanders was 2-for-2 for Alcorn State, and Hannah Vesper added a hit. For Rutgers, Rebecca Hall, Carly Todd and Elizabeth Adams each had two hits and two RBI. Jazmin Castillo got the loss for the Braves, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) in three innings of work.
Lamar 15, Grambling State 0 (F/5)

RUSTON, La. – Grambling State dropped a 15-0 tilt to Lamar University during the Louisiana Tech Classic on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers were unable to generate much at the plate, only accounting for two hits over the course of the matchup. Meanwhile, Grambling allowed Lamar's lineup to bat around in each of the first two innings, as Lamar put up eight runs in the first inning and seven more in the second inning.

Brittany Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with four RBI, and Ashley McDowell was 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI for Lamar. Kendalyn Arceneaux and Adrianna Young each had one hit for Grambling. Alexus Brown took the loss for the Lady Tigers (4.0 IP, 13 H, 15 R allowed).

Gardner-Webb 5, Alabama State 3 (Feb. 26)

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – In a contest that drifted into the wee hours of Feb. 27, Alabama State fell 5-3 to Gardner-Webb during the ASU Hornet Tournament.

GWU started quickly thanks to a two-run homer by Rachel Cuminsky in the first inning. Alabama State cut the deficit in half when Charlene Castro put a pitch over the fence for a solo shot.

The teams traded scoreless innings until the fourth, when GWU added a run thanks to a Jill Blank RBI single. Alabama State added two more runs over the fifth and sixth innings, but the Lady Bulldogs matched the homestanding Hornets run for run to maintain their advantage.

Jenna Mae Thorne and Aleesa Yanez both went 2-for-3 with a RBI for Alabama State. Melissa Christmann was credited with the loss, allowing four hits and four runs (two earned) over 4.0 innings.
