Box Score GRAMBLING -- Grambling State University's Lady Tiger (7-4; 10-11 SWAC) beat the Alcorn State University Lady Braves (3-8; 5-16 SWAC) when they last met, 85-76, but they couldn't pull off a repeat Monday (February 8) at home as Alcorn State beat GSU, 70-66.
Beating Alcorn last month (January 11), GSU's
Jazmine Boyd scored a team-high 34 points,
Shakyla Hill scored 24 points and
Bre'nae Andrews shot 10. This time, Boyd got half that number, 17 points; Hill ended the game with nine and Andrews shot 14. Alcorn's Norianna Haynes, the SWAC's leading scorer, matched Boyd with 34 points in the last game, and she ended Monday's game with 28 points. ASU's Ashton McNichols added 18 and Brianna Tolliver put up 11.
Monday's game pace was different for Grambling State. Going into the January game's fourth quarter, GSU was trailing by six points before outscoring the Lady Braves 31-16 in the fourth period. On the home court Monday, ASU led at the half 52-44, and the Lady Braves continued to lead through the second half. At points, GSU narrowed the score to four and five points.
