Grambling Hits the Road to Face Arkansas-Pine Bluff, MVSU

GRAMBLING, La. (Women's basketball) – The Grambling State University women's basketball team has been dominating the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) with sound play for the last eight weeks. The Lady Tigers look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. to face the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB) on Saturday at 3 p.m. GSU will continue their road trip on Monday in Itta Bena, Miss. against Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) at 5:30 p.m.

SWAC ranked No. 1 Grambling (13-12, 11-3 SWAC) has been on a win streak for their last eight outings with five wins coming in five points or less. Shakyla Hill has been the anchor of the Lady Tigers offense as she is averaging 15.1 points and 7.6 rebounds. She has finished four of the last eight contests with double-doubles of ten points or more. Hill also leads the SWAC in steals, averaging 3.1 per game. She also ranks in the top five of six categories (scoring, rebounds, field goal percentage, assists, steals, and offensive rebounds). Not to be outdone, Monisha Neal is the slow and steady constant weapon for Grambling. Neal is third on the team, averaging 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds.

The Lady Golden Lions (12-14, 9-6 SWAC) come into this weekend's contest after a 62-57 loss to Prairie View A&M University on Monday. Destiny Brewton led the way for UAPB with 14 points and Shawntayla Harris had nine total rebounds. In the last meeting between these teams, Grambling slipped by Arkansas-Pine Bluff to the tune of 56-54. Hill was the leader for GSU with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

???????MVSU (9-17, 6-9 SWAC) has been on a five game losing streak with their latest loss at the hands of Texas Southern University with a score of 60-54. Ashley Beals recorded a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. When last Grambling faced the Devilettes, Grambling bested the team with a score of 88-67. Kiana Jones recorded 20 points and Neal finished with nine total rebounds.
